Ramen Ryu

Ramen Ryu opened in 2023 as Toronto's first specialty shop dedicated to Iekei ramen, bringing a bold Yokohama-style experience to the city's ramen scene. For enthusiasts seeking authentic regional Japanese flavors beyond the usual tonkotsu and miso options, this spot offers something genuinely different: a rich soy-based broth made from pork and chicken bones, paired with medium-thick straight noodles that hold up to the hearty soup.

The kitchen prepares its signature broth fresh in-house every day using carefully selected ingredients, aiming to recreate the authentic taste you'd find in Yokohama. Located inside The Well food court on Front Street West, Ramen Ryu operates seven days a week with extended weekend hours. You can make online reservations to skip peak-time waits or order delivery if you'd rather enjoy your bowl at home.

That said, recent diners have raised concerns about value and execution. Some guests have found the pricing steep for what arrives in the bowl, with one noting a $22 ramen that included chicken resembling mass-produced product and western salad greens instead of traditional Asian vegetables. Others have mentioned quality control issues ranging from hygiene concerns to tough proteins and sparse curry bases. While the concept fills a genuine gap in Toronto's ramen landscape, consistency appears to be a work in progress at this food court location.
